How do I get PrEP from Marshal?

To get started fill out a short questionnaire, we will then ship you a home testing kit which you send back to the lab with a prepaid shipping label.

Upon reviewing the results from the lab and questionnaire, our partner providers will write a prescription if appropriate; which the pharmacy will fill and have delivered to your home.

How long does it take to get my PrEP?

Our goal is to get you your PrEP within 5-7 business days after the submission of your questionnaire. The faster the home testing kit is completed and sent back to the lab the faster we can complete this process.

Do I need a prescription for PrEP?

Yes, after your questionnaire has been completed and your lab results have been completed a licensed doctor will review them, and if appropriate, write the prescription for you.

What medication will be prescribed for me for PrEP?

Upon review of your questionnaire and labs, Descovy® will be prescribed for PrEP if appropriate

How will my PrEP arrive?

It will be shipped via USPS in a discreet envelope with no branding from Marshal Health or the dispensing pharmacy. Tracking will be provided to you via text.

How does the at-home testing kit work?

This kit will be shipped directly to your address. Once received, just follow the instructions and send it back with the pre-paid shipping label.

How long do the lab results take?

After received, the average time for lab results to be processed will be 2-3 business days. You will receive a secure text to see your results.

Billing and Insurance
Do you accept insurance?

Most major plans are accepted. If the pharmacy cannot fill the prescription due to your prescription insurance, they will reach out to let you know.

How much will my prescription for PrEP cost?

Most insurance companies will pay for PrEP and copay assistance programs are available and may be used to reduce the cost if needed.

What is PrEP?

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a once daily medication used to reduce the risk of contracting HIV.

How effective is PrEP?

When taken daily as directed, PrEP is 99% in preventing HIV-negative people from contracting HIV. To learn more about PrEP visit the CDC website here.

How long does it take for PrEP to become effective?

The CDC recommends taking PrEP every day for 21 days before possible HIV exposure.

Does PrEP prevent any other sexually transmitted diseases or infections?

No PrEP does not prevent any other STD’s or STI’s besides HIV. It is important to get tested regularly for other STD’s or STI’s.

Can I drink alcohol while taking PrEP?

There are no known interactions with Descovy® and alcohol.

What are the most common side effects of PrEP?

The most common side effects of Descovy® may include nausea, headache, and diarrhea, which usually subside over time.
